TEMPERAMENT
Temperament is the combination of mental, physical and emotional traits of a person. It is a person's characteristic or habitual inclination or mode of emotional response. Temperament is an aspect of personality often concerned with emotional dispositions and reactions. It also refers to the set of traits that has to do with your approach to the world around you. It is innate and mainly influenced by genetics.
External factors such as positive and negative childhood experiences can also shape temperament.
Personality: This is a broad term used to to to a unique set of traits, behaviors and emotions that typically ascertain or determine your behaviour.
Your personality is more likely to change than your temperament. Your temperament falls under the category of your personality.
TYPES OF TEMPERAMENT
Temperament is basically classified into four types which includes;
• Sanguine(Extrovert)
• Choleric(Extrovert)
• Melancholy(Introvert)
• Phlegmatic(introvert)
• SANGUINE: These are people who are typically extroverted and very sociable. They see a glass half full instead of half empty. You'll certainly find them in the midst of the crowd. Individuals who fall into this temperament type are social and finds it easy to interact with others and make ; energetic and talkative.
While Sanguine seem to have positive traits that make them fun to be around, it can also make them impulsive and indecisive. They can be disorderly and loud, likes to be noticed from the crowd
• CHOLERIC: These are domineering and assertive people. Individuals Individuals who belong to this temperament type are vision driven and goal-oriented. They are high achievers at school, work or even play and are usually selected as team leaders.
Unlike sanguine, choleric people are decisive but can be stubborn and impatient. Achieving set goals are their priorities over critical social connections and relationships.
Choleric are good leaders compared to the sanguine.
• PHLEGMATIC: Phlegmatic people are introverts, they display little emotion which can be interpreted as being passive during social interactions. They are easy going people who tend yo be empathetic when relating with others.
They always avoid conflict at all costs which sometimes causes them to lose opportunities when they fail to be assertive. The phlegmatic are not as reserved as melancholy. They rarely make friends unlike the sanguine and choleric
• MELANCHOLY: They are introverts. Individuals who fall into this category of temperament are very reserved thoughtful and sensitive. Melancholy people can be analytical and methodic especially at work; making them valuable to any work place. They often get moody and anxious when things are running smoothly.
They are unforgiving, always withdraw from the crowd, they take calculated risks and are not easily deceived. They barely make friends but if they find one, they stick so close to that person.
